State Authorization Information

The University of Southern California’s Master of Social Work degree is currently authorized to operate, exempt or not subject to approval in: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

New York – The USC MSW program does not meet New York’s requirements for licensure. The program does not meet the number of units required by the state of New York. For more information, please refer to this New York state website.

Florida – As an online student in the USC MSW program residing in Florida, you will need to provide proof of Psychopathology either SOWK-612 or SOWK-613 in order to meet the coursework requirements for becoming a Registered Clinical Social Work Intern in Florida. New Hampshire – As an online student in the USC MSW program residing in New Hampshire, you will need to provide proof of Psychopathology SOWK 612, and Substance Abuse SOWK 617 to be eligible for licensure in New Hampshire. For more information, please refer to this New Hampshire state website.

Indiana – As an online student in the USC MSW program residing in Indiana, you will need to provide proof of Psychopathology SOWK 612/613; and Group and Family Practice SOWK 523/525 to meet the coursework requirements for licensure eligibility in Indiana. The University of Southern California will continue to monitor developments in state laws in each state in which it enrolls students and, if authorization or licensure is or becomes necessary, will obtain such additional approvals.
