Announcing the New iPhone/iPad App for MSW@USC Students

MSW@USC students are no strangers to technology since the USC School of Social Work has taken to the Internet and uses advanced web-based platforms and tools to make earning a Master of Social Work degree online a dynamic experience.  Which is why we are so excited to announce the MSW@USC iPhone/iPad application!

Now you can swipe and tap your way through the Virtual Academic Center. Accessing the MSW@USC learning management system via mobile browser was always possible, but this application makes the most of Apple’s touch-screen technology.

The new mobile app offers plenty of features, but don’t take our word for it. If you’re a current MSW@USC student with an iPhone or iPad, you can download the app from iTunes and try it out for yourself.

Here’s a snapshot of what you can do:

View course materials on the go. You can spend more time outdoors – and away from your computer – by taking course content with you.  Whether that means lounging on the beach or sitting in a park, remember to take your iPhone or iPad with you, and leave the laptop at home.

Download videos. For the multimedia-starved student, the MSW@USC application delivers asynchronous content to the palm of your hand with fast loading times for even longer videos.

Network with professors and peers. It’s easier than ever to post on a classmate’s wall and send emails.  One of the greatest benefits of earning an MSW degree through the Virtual Academic Center is interacting with students from all over the country – whether that means participating in a group discussion for class or joining a special-interest social community.

Now you can get instant alerts that will keep you informed on the go – whether it’s notice of upcoming live sessions or assignment due dates.

Take notes. You can jot down reminders about an upcoming assignment or something you want to discuss in class. The content you post on your device seamlessly transfers to the web the next time you log in to the Virtual Academic Center from your browser.

Are you developing any for the Android network?

    • Anonymous

More mobile platforms are being developed. Once they’re available we’ll make sure to let everyone know. Thanks!

    • Lia Andrews

An Android app would be GREAT!

  • Aev8527

Can UPC students use this app? I downloaded it into my iphone, but can’t access it using my e-mail user name and passcode.

Hi, This app is only for MSW@USC current students.

  • Tashahow

How do you log in? Which log in should I use?

    • Anonymous

Hi Tasha, to log into the app you can use the same login you would use to log into the Virtual Academic Center on the web. Thanks!

  • Lyn

I use the mobile app on my iPad and love it! Greatest perk for me- course content on the go.

That’s great Lyn! Glad you’re enjoying it. Let us know what you think of the update as well.

With the new update, will we be able to attend live sessions as long as we have downloaded adobe connect?

    • Anonymous

There will be a revised FAQ sent to students soon with all of the updates and suggestions. As long as you’re running version 1.3 or higher you will be able to join live sessions if you have the Adobe Connect Mobile app installed on a compatible device. The current version of Adobe Connect Mobile is still in a beta phase and therefore has limited functionality. We prefer Live Sessions are attended via the LMS until further notice.

It’s great when universities are doing these iPad Pilot programs and I think many of them will find that they are more effective learning tools and much more easier to maintain than Laptops or Netbooks. That is, if they have the right case. Physical protection is one huge downfall of the iPad. I researched the best case for the academic setting at:

    iPad Case Review
I came to the conclusion that something like the Zaggmate with a built-in bluetooh keyboard would probably have the most use within an academic setting. Thus providing both functionality and protection at the very same time.

Do you have an app available for Android phones.
