One in five adults in the U.S. experiences mental health issues.1 Often, these individuals rely on help from social workers, one of the largest groups of clinically trained mental health providers in the country.

And, as the median age of our population increases, so does the need for social workers who can work with adults. Future practitioners must therefore prepare to work with adults of all ages, and become equipped to provide help from drug abuse to elder care to health-care policy.

Students in the online USC MSW program’s Adult Mental Health and Wellness track will study various subject areas, which include:

  • Mental health
  • Health and wellness
  • Substance abuse and recovery
  • Behavioral health care
  • Integrated care and health care policy

Curriculum

The Adult Mental Health and Wellness track consists of three courses that explore human behavioral theory with an emphasis on clinical practice and policy. Students consider the role of neuroscience as it relates to the mind-brain-body system, as well as social systems, such as family, culture and community. Courses blend evidence-based research with hands-on experiences in clinical settings.

Career Opportunities

MSW graduates who select a focus in adult mental health and wellness are prepared to work in a range of settings, such as:

  • Hospitals
  • Clinics
  • Community service organizations
  • Treatment and recovery programs
  • Government agencies
